Horse and Jockey junction roadworks
The first phase of improvement work at the Horse and Jockey junction, Aylesbury, began on Monday 11 January. Improvements will allow the junction, in particular the Elmhurst Road arm, to operate more efficiently.
The work, to be done during the daytime by Transport for Buckinghamshire (TFB), involves closing part of Elmhurst Road for up to six weeks. Advance warning signs have been placed and diversion route signs will be in position before work begins.
Residents will be able to get in and out of their properties, but Elmhurst Road will be closed to through traffic from the Horse and Jockey junction to the first Cannock Road entrance.
The improvement work is needed as a result of further housing development at Weedon Hill. TFB is using this opportunity to improve the way the traffic lights work, and to rectify construction defects on the approaches to the junction that have emerged in the past 12 months.
The second phase of the works, due to start on Monday 22 February, will involve closing Weedon Road for about 100 metres from the Horse and Jockey junction. Buckingham Road will remain open throughout this period.
TFB is providing information on 0845 230 2882.

EmailVision for Aylesbury & the Vale
It’s an exciting time for Aylesbury Vale. The district is already a fast growing area and it’s set to experience further significant expansion as one of the government’s major growth areas. 18,300 new homes are to be built by 2021, the majority of these around Aylesbury. Growth will mean fantastic opportunities for the people who live and work here - better shops and leisure facilities, a wider choice of housing, new job prospects. And for existing businesses and new investors, the chance to take advantage of a thriving and developing local economy. It will mean new space for people to live – and for businesses to grow.

AVDC, Aylesbury Vale Advantage (the organisation responsible for delivering the growth) and other key partner such as Buckinghamshire County Council and Vale of Aylesbury Primary Care Trust have a clear vision to help us manage the growth and make sure it delivers these opportunities. Our vision is about preserving what’s best about the area – our history and heritage, and the quality of life. But it’s also about creating a vibrant Aylesbury Vale, where everyone cares about the quality of the local environment and feels able to make a contribution. As the county town, Aylesbury will be play a pivotal role in securing a better and more prosperous future for everyone who lives, visits, works or does business in the Vale. We’re already attracting multi-million investment from both the public and private sector. Government grants are bringing forward improvements to public transport whilst investment from international developers such as Crest Nicholson and Warner Estates will deliver amongst other things, new town centre housing, new car parking and a new shopping centre. Local councils are also playing their part - AVDC, for example, is developing a prestigious new theatre. And with a new college, and new hospital facilities it’s clear that there’s already a lot happening with the prospect of much more to come.
